ALTERED STATES

By Jason.

Welcome to Altered States. A weekly playlist to help your weekend’s adventure get to the right destination. Featuring music left of center and slightly askew; ranging from post psychedelia, psybient, jam, ambient, hip hop, and world music. Whatever I’m listening to during the week that I feel might help you through life’s journey.

Today is a special extra list. As I was putting together Altered States 11 I thought some might be interested in hearing some of the music that doesn’t make the weekly list. Since we started a new Volume 2 of Altered States I’m purging myself of all the back logged music I’ve been saving. I present to you: Altered States Out-Takes Volume 1. Everything that either has been cut from a previous list or that I’d been saving for a future list but never quite fit.

To be clear, it’s a mish-mash of music. With each Altered States list I take the time to craft a flow and a specific theme (regardless of whether that’s apparent), this is NOT that. This is just a listing of all the music that hasn’t yet made the cut. It’s a long list filled with some great tunes. I hope you enjoy:

This week’s journey takes off with the Scottish band The Aliens, from their 2007 debut album , Astronomy for Dogs.

Put your headphones on, sit back, and enjoy the ride:

I post 2 play lists. This week’s list and the running main list. If you like what you hear, follow the running main list at the bottom. The weekly list gets deleted and fed into the main list. I started a new main playlist to follow. It’s called  Altered States Volume 2. Follow that one.  I will still provide the link to the first one for a few weeks as the Volume 2 grows.

Welcome to holiday edition of Altered States. A weekly playlist to help your weekend’s adventure get to the right destination. Whatever I’m listening to during the week that I feel might help you through life’s journey.

I’ve done a good job staying away from my jamband love on this list so far, to make up for that, you’re getting an entire Christmas album from one of the most prolific jam bands of the last 25 years. This week’s list features one of my favorite bands moe.

Happy Holidays and Merry Christmas!

This week your trip is short. I’ve paired down the weekly playlist  for a more succinct ride. This week’s list uses Inspired Flight’s song It’s the Chemicals and Sky With Hand’s Blue Sky Black Death as it’s two main centerpieces. The list builds to and peaks with these selections before evening out with a rare Beach Boys selection Feel Flows.

Like every other week here at Altered States, I post 2 play lists. This week’s list and the running main list. If you like what you hear, follow the running main list at the bottom. The weekly list gets deleted every week and fed into the running list.

Without further ado,

Altered States Weekly #8

Last week in my own “altered state” I accidentally deleted the master playlist. Every week after this is posted I move the previous weeks list into 1 playlist. That would be the one for you to follow. It’s posted below for you. If you’ve followed it previously, you’ll need to re-follow. The master list, follow this one:

This week’s playlist is coming out a bit early because of the extended weekend. This might be the most ‘altered’ of the Altered States playlists, focusing mainly on dark jazz themes and rich horn arrangements.

We start our journey off with Miles Davis’ “Chez Le Photographe Du Motel”  from the Lous Malle film Ascenseur pour l’échafaud.  A solid base from which we deviate immediately into the unknown jazz cosmos with Tuxedomoon’s Kubrick. This soundtrack is heavy on both the horns and the weird. Be sure to stick it out till the end. There are many tricks, turns, and surprises along the way.

Drop your bean, turn the lights low and the music up. Enjoy the ride.

In keeping with the Static theme this week, Altered States is focusing the playlist towards Hip Hop. I believe this list will have you questioning why anybody would ever listen to Trap music when these rhymes and beats are still a thing. It’s 90’s heavy, because well… I’m 90’s heavy.

Enjoy the ride:
